Remembrance Day parade and memorial service at Gordon’s

Over 1500 guests, made up of parents, family members and Gordonians, attended the Remembrance Parade and Service on Sunday 8 November 2015 at Gordon’s School. Pupils at the school marked the occasion with the annual Remembrance Day parade in their ceremonial Blues uniforms and marched to the accompaniment of the School’s Pipes and Drums Band. Reverend Denis Robinson, the School’s Chaplain, gave the address. Wreaths were laid and a two-minute silence was observed on the Parade Square in remembrance of the Gordonians who lost their lives in the two World Wars and in subsequent conflicts. As a state boarding school, popular with many forces families, the event is one of the more poignant in the school’s calendar.
Another long-standing tradition at Gordon’s School is the annual Whitehall Parade which takes place in January of each year. Pupils of all year groups march proudly through the streets of Whitehall in central London, led by the Pipes and Drums Band and followed by a memorial service at the statue of General Gordon on the Embankment. The event commemorates the anniversary of General Gordon’s death in 1885. The school stands as his National Memorial with The Queen as Patron.
