Hazlegrove making a difference

Hazlegrove has been encouraging boarders and day pupils to be ‘M.A.D.’ – that is to be thinking more about other people and to be ‘Making a Difference’ to those less fortunate than themselves. The pupils have certainly risen to the challenge. One initiative involved the whole school being challenged to raise £15 each to provide a school-in-a-bag for children affected by the earthquake in Nepal – caught up in the spirit of it all, the children raised enough money to provide 559 school bags, far surpassing the original target. Hazlegrove also played host in the summer term to a 5K Colour Run for the local St Margaret’s Hospice which involved the local community as well as some parents, pupils and staff being covered in powder paint while running for a great cause, raising in the region of £50,000. Individual pupils have also made some fantastic fundraising efforts. Year 5 boarder Ottilie wanted to try and make a difference for Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Ottilie embarked on a decathlon of fundraising events which culminated in attempting a penny mile on the Hazlegrove front lawn and a ‘hero’ cookie sale. Ottilie was thrilled to raise a fantastic £540 for Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
